The Cat Came Back
(Harry Miller)

EmDCB7
Old Mr. Johnson, he had troubles all his own, He
EmDC
had an old yeller tomcat who wouldn't leave his
B7EmDC
home. He tried and he tried to give that cat
B7EmDCB7
away, He gave it to a man who was going far away.
[chorus]:
    EmDC
But the cat came back the very next
    B7EmDC
day, The cat came back, they thought
    B7EmD
he was a goner, But the cat came back,
    CB7EmD
he just wouldn't stay away, away,
    CB7EmDCB7EmD
away, away, No, no, no, no. No, no,
    CB7
    no, no.
EmDC
Well the man around the corner hated that cat

B7EmD
with all his might, He loaded up his shotgun
CB7EmD
with nails and dynamite. He waited and he waited
CB7EmD
for that cat to come around, Ninety-seven pieces
CB7
of that man were all they found.
[chorus]
EmDC
Well they gave a kid a quarter to let that cat
B7EmD
drown. He rowed him out to the river, there was
CB7EmD
water all around. He tied a rope around his
CB7
neck, it must have weighed a pound. Now they're
EmDC
draggin' that old river for the little boy that
B7
drowned.
[chorus]
EmDCB7
They gave it to the butcher to kill today. He

EmDCB7
put it through the meat grinder and ground away.
EmDC
The cat disappeared with a blood-curdling
B7EmDC
shriek! And the meat tasted foul for almost a
B7
week.
[chorus]
EmDCB7EmD
Now the atom bomb fell today. The H-bomb fell in
CB7EmD
the very same way. England went, France went,
CB7EmD
then the good ol' U. S. A. Even (fill in) was
CB7
blown away.
[chorus]
